Sports CS Salim Mvurya hands over Kasarani Stadium ahead of CHAN
It marks CHAN's return to East Africa for the first time since Rwanda staged the event in 2016. Kasarani Stadium will host the final on August 30 and serve as the home venue for Harambee Stars.
Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Salim Mvurya on Monday officially handed over the refurbished Kasarani Stadium to the CHAN 2024 Local Organising Committee, marking a significant step in Kenya's preparations to co-host the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will co-host the tournament scheduled for August 2 through August 30, 2025.

It marks CHAN's return to East Africa for the first time since Rwanda staged the event in 2016. Kasarani Stadium will host the final on August 30 and serve as the home venue for Harambee Stars.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mvurya stated that renovation works at the stadium had been completed to Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards.
"Work here is complete, and we will hand it over to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chair, as they also have important tasks to carry forward," said CS Mvurya.
Mvurya also confirmed that Ulinzi Sports Complex is fully operational as a training ground and Nyayo Stadium is nearly complete, with only a perimeter wall being finalised to boost security.
"Inside the stadium, no work is pending. Starting tomorrow, our focus will shift to preparing the Harambee Stars and giving them the necessary support through the Football Kenya Federation (FKF)," he said.
However, Mvurya condemned recent acts of vandalism at public facilities and infrastructure, emphasising the need for civic responsibility.
"It is unfortunate that after investing public money to revamp infrastructure, the same public comes back to destroy it. As Kenyans, we must protect these facilities," he said.
To deter future incidents of vandalism, Mvurya also announced enhanced CCTV coverage and security improvements at the stadiums.
"Even in a democratic country, we must express ourselves without damaging public and private property," he said.
Kenya will kick off its Group A campaign on Sunday, August 3, against DR Congo at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
The Harambee Stars will then face Angola on Wednesday, August 6 at the same venue before wrapping up the group phase with a clash against Morocco on Saturday, August 9, at 6:00 pm.
The opening match of the tournament will take place on Saturday, August 2, in Dar es Salaam, with hosts Tanzania taking on Burkina Faso at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium at 8:00 p.m.
Group stage matches will also be held in Uganda and across Tanzania, with key clashes including Uganda vs Algeria on August 4 in Kampala, and Senegal vs Nigeria on August 12 at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
Quarter-final matches will begin on August 19, with semi-finals set for August 25 and 26. The third-place play-off will be held in Kampala on Friday, August 29, followed by the final at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Saturday, August 30 at 6:00 pm.
Kenya is placed in a challenging Group A alongside DR Congo, Angola, and Morocco, while Tanzania hosts Group B, Uganda leads Group C, and Group D features defending champions Senegal.
